NEWS RELEASE - My Tribute to all Veterans
My Tribute to all the Veterans of our Community and Nation At the close of WW11 in 1945, HST had already taken over and ended the conflict
in South Pacific with actions of the bomber known as the Enola Gay. Living in Houston with my sister, mom & dad, I can remember my dad wearing the uniform of a policeman and my uncles wearing a military uniform, and our new console radio was the source of evening entertainment. Even at that young age, I felt proud and safe, so I say, thank you!
And, in the early 50’s, the family
had moved to a small farm outside of Houston, near Humble, Tx., were I learned to milk cows, feed chickens, slop hogs, and I had a horse named Buck and a dog named Major. We had a 12” B&W TV which I witnessed Tommy Lewis of Alabama coming off the bench to tackle Dickey Moegle of Rice in the Cotton Bowl and I saw spectacular newsreels showing F-86 Saber Jets besting the migs over a country called Korea. Again, I felt proud & safe and so I say again thank you!
And, during the 1960’s, even though I had longer hair, wore bell bottoms, and listened to such music as the Beatles, my focus was on attending college, graduating and getting a job with Shell Oil in Houston. I didn’t have time or the political conviction to participate in protests, set-ins, or other demonstrations about a conflict taking place in the jungles of Southeast Asia. I not only felt fortunate, but proud to have the opportunities afforded me by the
courage and hardships of so many. Again, I say thank you. And, not to long ago, against a Tyrant that attempted to affect the well being of all Americans, was Desert Storm. The American public was able to tune-in and witness a war on TV. I believe, as a result, the American people could see and come to realize the strength, dominance, high technology, professional, and
resourcefulness of our military men & women. This made me very proud and very secure, and finally, again, I say thank you. This is only a small way that I can give my salute, and thanks during my lifetime. God bless America, and by all means, God bless each and every one of you.
