The annual
event, with lunch
provided by Ashley Furniture Home Store, will recognize
truly outstanding local volunteers, law enforcement
personnel, Child Protective Services case workers, and non‐profit
agency partners
through various categories of the 2009 Guardian Angel
Awards. This year’s Guardian Angel Awards Luncheon,
sponsored by Comal County Commissioner Greg Parker, Comal
County Child Welfare Board, Children’s Advocacy Center of
Comal County, Ashley Furniture Home Store, and St. Jude’s
Ranch for Children, will feature a guest speaker from the
Comal County District Attorney’s office in addition to the
Awards program. The 2009 Guardian Angel Awards categories include: Volunteer of the Year, Agency Member of the Year, and Longevity. In addition to specific award category criteria, all nominees for the awards require a range and depth of participation and support for child abuse and family violence prevention activities. The Guardian Angel Awards Luncheon reflects Comal County’s participation in National Child Abuse Prevention Month, April 1‐30. National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which was proclaimed by the U.S. government in 1984, is a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families.
