Proclamation - Recognizing May 5, 2007 as "Cinco De Mayo" Celebration Day

            WHEREAS, Cinco De Mayo commemorates Mexican independence from Napoleonic domination. On the fifth day of May in 1862, the Mexicans defeated the French at Puebla; and 

WHEREAS, the Hispanic community of Comal County has designated the day of May 5, 2007 to share its heritage and culture with the residents of Comal County and surrounding communities; and 

WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo celebrates the diversity of the Comal County community and has become an integral part of the community; and

WHEREAS, the Cinco de Mayo celebration provides cultural awareness and knowledge to the community through the music, arts, food, and educational experiences offered at the various festivities;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners’ Court of Comal County, duly convened and acting in its capacity as the governing body of Comal County does hereby proclaim the fifth day of May 2007 as:

PASSED AND APPROVED this the 3rd day of May 2007.
