Photo by Karla Held/Herald-Zeitung PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Linden Anderson was born January 14, 1908 in Manor, Texas, and has spent her life in devoted service to her city, county, state and nation and has endeared herself to a wealth of friends all over the globe; and WHEREAS, Linden earned her Education Degree from the University of Texas in 1939, while she attended college and taught in Pflugerville and at Carl Schurz Elementary School in New Braunfels for 12 years; and WHEREAS, Linden was eager to do her part when World War II started and left her teaching position in Pharr, Texas to return to New Braunfels and work at Randolph Air Force Base for over two years before signing on with the Red Cross; and WHEREAS, Linden had a career of distinction with the Red Cross and earned the affectionate name of “Tex” for the next thirty years of her professional life as a Red Cross worker during World War II and the Korean War and later as a Hospital Recreational Supervisor; and WHEREAS, Linden served the Red Cross in England, Germany, Korea, Japan and North Africa as well as the United States before she retired in 1973 from the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christ, Texas, and returned to New Braunfels; and WHEREAS, Linden has a chapter written about her accomplishments in the book Women of World War II that portrays her years of stellar work with the Red Cross, and she was named “A Living Legend of New Braunfels” by the Braunfels Foundation Trust, with many additional honors bestowed upon her over the years; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Commissioners Court of Comal County, duly convened and acting in its official capacity, hereby pays tribute to Linden Anderson in honor of her 100th Birthday and expresses heartfelt appreciation for her keen sense of humor, positive attitude and enthusiasm for life that has touched all who know her; FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Commissioners Court recognizes with gratitude Linden’s outstanding award-winning service as a tireless patriot and extraordinary volunteer in numerous charitable, civic, religious and political organizations in a lifetime of unequaled commitment, dedication and hard work; FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Commissioners Court of Comal County wishes Linden Anderson a happy 100th Birthday and declares Monday, January 14, 2008 to be Linden Anderson Day in Comal County and encourages all citizens to recognize her service with thanksgiving and pay tribute to this extraordinary Texas lady. Passed and approved unanimously this 10th day of January 2008. |
