Proclamation - Living Legends Day - Wilber Wesley (Wib) Amacher


Proclamation

LIVING LEGENDS DAY - October 12, 2006

WHEREAS, the New Braunfels Foundation Trust has named Wilbur Wesley (Wib) Amacher as "Living Legend of New Braunfels" and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Wesley (Wib) Amacher, was born in Sibley, Illinois, attended Gallagher’s College of Business, served in the Air Force during World War II and retired as a budget analyst from the Air Force in 1976. Wib and wife Doris moved to New Braunfels in 1958, where he hit the ground running and wanted to help people. Amacher was elected to the City Council in 1976 and elected Mayor in 1979. As Mayor, he opened the tube chute on the Comal River. The highlight of his time as Mayor was representing New Braunfels as part of the 20th Anniversary of the Sister City program with Braunfels, Germany. Wib is a charter member of the Evening Lion’s Club, established in 1967. He served as treasurer of the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church for 38 years and is now on the Board of Trustees. In the 1970’s, he helped lease the building for the original Senior Citizens Center. He has remained actively involved, helping to organize and deliver Meals on Wheels and was honored in 2004 for his years of service. He also served on the original board of the New Braunfels Humane Society, helping lease and dedicate the shelter, and served as Treasurer for ten years. Amacher is a member of the Citizens Police Academy and is active in the Blue Santa program. After heart surgery in 1988, he served on the American Heart Association board for 10 years. He participates annually in the American Cancer Society walk, as a survivor. In January 2004, Amacher was commissioned by Governor Rick Perry as Admiral in the Texas Navy for his ongoing contributions to the State of Texas. A Blue Coat and 40 year member of the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, and named to the Hall of Honor in 1997. He is now a Senior Opa and is a 40 year member of Wurstfest Association and annually helps during the Weihnachtsmarkt for the Sophienburg Museum. Wib dedicates a lot of his time and energy to McKenna Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and has selflessly and tirelessly given to improving many facets of life in New Braunfels.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners’ Court of Comal

County, duly convened and acting in its capacity as the governing body of Comal County, does hereby name October 12, 2006 as "Living Legends Day" in Comal County and recognizes Wilbur Wesley (Wib) Amacher as an individual who has truly made a difference in Comal County.
