WHEREAS, the Guild is dedicated to the dynamic and diverse world of quilt-making and preserving the heritage of quilts as an art form and craft; bringing inspiration, ideas and instruction to all members in an encouraging environment through guest speakers, workshops and guild projects; and sharing the excitement and joy of quilts through outreach efforts that benefit schools, children’s and women’s shelters, charities and service agencies; and

WHEREAS, during the past 12 years, members have annually designed a memory quilt to honor the loved ones served by Hope Hospice of New Braunfels. Quilts are to be presented this year to eight families moving into the new Habitat for Humanity homes. Quilts for wounded soldiers undergoing treatment at BAMC are being sewn now. Children’s quilts, tote bags and pillows are donated to area shelters monthly. Each month the guild donates household necessities or non-perishable food items to area shelters and food banks. They offer storybook quilts and accompanying books as an educational resource to area public and private schools to encourage elementary school students to learn about quilting; and

WHEREAS, a biennial quilt show that showcases area talent is hosted by the members. The 2006 show at the New Braunfels Civic Center showcased 175 beautiful works of art and presented awards in numerous categories. The next show is scheduled for July 2008.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners’ Court of Comal County, duly convened and acting in its capacity as the governing body of Comal County, does hereby recognize The New Braunfels Quilt Guild’s 25^th Anniversary.
