WHEREAS, the German immigration to Texas is an important milestone in the history of New Braunfels, Texas and the United States; and WHEREAS, the first wagons of German immigrants crossed the Guadalupe River beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Good Friday, March 21, 1845 and erected a camp on the bluff overlooking the Dry Comal Creek where Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church is now located; and WHEREAS, the New Braunfels Rotary Founders’ Day Celebration has been initiated by the New Braunfels Rotary Club to officially commemorate the 162nd year of the founding of New Braunfels, named for Braunfels, Germany, by Prince Carl Solms, Braunfels, Germany, the first Commissioner General of the Adelsverein; and WHEREAS, the New Braunfels Rotary Founder’s day Celebration has also been initiated as a fundraising event to enable the Club to continue supporting numerous essential services and charities in New Braunfels and Comal County as well as the Rotary scholarship program; and WHEREAS, the New Braunfels Rotary Founder’s Day Celebration will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Kay Harrison Auditorium located at 1345 Independence Drive. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners’ Court of Comal County, duly convened and acting in its capacity as the governing body of Comal County, does hereby proclaim March 29, 2007 as “New Braunfels Rotary Founder’s Day Celebration in Comal County..
