Proclamation - Recognize New Braunfels High School Unicorns 2006 State 4A Baseball Champions and Coach Doug Edwards
Proclamation WHEREAS , Comal County congratulates the players and coach of the New Braunfels High School Varsity Baseball Team on their many victories to bring home the Conference 4A Baseball State Championship; andWHEREAS, Players Derek Quent, Clayton Mott, Sammy Anderson, Kurtis Kostan, Calvin Hoffman, Judah Owens, Jordan Herring, Jeremy Erben, Jason Woody, Shane Fisher, Bryan Webb, Cody Miller, Caleb Curtis, Levi Garrett, Patrick Mills, Dustin Kraft, Jay Bueche, Ben Triesch, Micah Herring, Laramie Boos, and Kyle Richey accomplished what no baseball team at New Braunfels High School has done before; and WHEREAS, Coach Doug Edwards was named "Baseball Coach of the Year" by the San Antonio Express News and many of the players have received recognition throughout the season for their accomplishments on and off the field. Starting pitcher Jeremy Erben named "Player of the Year" by the San Antonio Express-News and New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung posted more than 160 strikeouts through more than 90 innings during the six-month season. Erben also was named to the All-State First Team and earned Most Valuable Player honors on the District 27-4A All-District First Team, along with players Cody Miller, Jordan Herring, Kurtis Kostan, Bryan Webb, and Shane Fisher. Jordan Herring and Kurtis Kostan were also named to the All-State Third Team. Clayton Mott received national media attention for "The Catch" he made in the fifth inning of the final game that combined athleticism and acrobatics for a critical out. Mott also earned honors on the District 27-4A Honorable Mention team, along with Laramie Boos. Named to the All-Tournament State Team were: Kyle Richey, Caleb Curtis, Calvin Hoffman, Clayton Mott, and Kurtis Kostan. Named to the Academic All-District Team were: Shane Fisher, Jordan Herring, Dustin Kraft, Cody Miller, Judah Owens, and Derek Quent. Named to the District 27-4A Second Team were: Caleb Curtis and Calvin Hoffman; then NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commissioners’ Court of Comal County, duly convened and acting in its capacity as the governing body of Comal County, does hereby congratulate the coach and athletes for this honor and applaud them as exemplary of the quality of educators and students in the New Braunfels Independent School District.PASSED AND APPROVED this the 6th day of July, 2006.
