Parker to express climate views in book

Published March 18, 2010

Comal County Commissioner Greg Parker is looking to weigh in on the global debate over climate change in a new book titled, “Global Warming ... Really?”

The book is Parker’s first. He said he wrote it to try and offer a conservative, easy-to-understand perspective to issues surrounding the climate change issue.

“As I’ve been studying and doing research, a lot of the literature out there is purely science-based,” Parker said, “and there are scientific perspectives in this book as well. But I wanted to give people a balanced, common-sense look at the issues.”

The book will be available in major bookstores and online on April 26.

The two-term county commissioner said he plans to follow its release with a book tour across Texas to promote his conservative take on global warming as well as alternative energy solutions.

“Liberal views on global warming have dominated the debate, and I think conservatives need to be heard,” said Parker.

The book features a forward by retired climatologist and global warming skeptic, Dr. Tim Bell, who is a former professor at the University of Winnipeg, as well as input from Accuweather’s Senior Meteorologist Joe Bastardi and the Media Research Centers Business and Media Institute.

Parker said he began planning to write a book on global warming and energy prior to 2009, when he endorsed a Web site promoting his possible run for Texas Railroad Commissioner.

“I’ve been researching the topic for quite a while, and I think it’s important to get the facts and listen to a balanced take on the subject,” he said.

He said he planned for the book to be the first in a series, as he looks to write about issues like gun control and illegal immigration in the future.

“I think the average citizen will appreciate hearing balanced, conservative views on national and state issues,” he said.
