Hortontown Cemetery
This section of land was originally in Guadalupe County, but the boundaries were changed in the late 1800's to Comal. Most early vital records can be found in Seguin.
The land was originally given in 1878 by Mrs. Fredericke Winter-Weidner. She and members of her family are buried there, including Justine Glenewinkel Bormann (a great, great grandmother to my father, C. C. Schumann). A committee was appointed to mark and sell the lots. In 1962, clean-up of the cemetery was provided by Bluebonnet Grange. In 1968, the oldest Lutheran church in existence in Texas was moved to the cemetery property from the Goodwin school property and was restored as a permanent memorial to the German settlers who organized the church in 1850 as the Evangelical Lutheran congregation at Neighborsville, Guadalupe County, Texas. The ownership was eventually transferred to St. Paul Lutheran church as it provided the manpower to maintain the building and is now owned by a non-profit association for its maintenance.
A portion of the cemetery was lost in providing right of way for Loop 337.
