DO YOU DO PHYSICALS?

IF MY CHILD FEELS BAD, CAN HE/SHE STILL RECEIVE SHOTS?

Children with mild acute illnesses, such as low-grade fever, upper respiratory infection, colds, otitis media (ear infection), and mild diarrhea, can and should be vaccinated.

WILL THESE SHOTS CAUSE MY CHILD TO RUN A FEVER OR FEEL BAD?

Some vaccinations cause no problems at all, while others have common effects on the recipients.  For example, DPT or Td might cause some muscle soreness or slight fever.  When you or your child receive vaccines, the nurse discusses and provides vaccine information with you regarding the common reactions.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT?

I LOST MY CHILD'S SHOT RECORD.  CAN I GET A COPY?

If you child received his/her vaccinations at our clinic, we do keep those records on file and on computer.  Replacement records vary in cost:  First replacement of a complete shot record is free; second replacement is $5.00.  If your child is in the Texas ImmTrac Immunization Registry, we can print an immunization record for FREE.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A MEAL BEFORE COMING IN FOR SHOTS?

Most people tolerate the administration of immunizations better if they have eaten.

MY CHILD NEEDS SHOTS AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY RIGHT NOW...WHAT CAN I DO?

No child will be denied immunization services because of the inability to pay.  The Health Department will make provisions with the parent for this service.

I CAN'T BRING MY CHILD IN FOR HIS/HER SHOTS--CAN SOMEONE ELSE BRING HIM/HER IN?

Yes, this is possible.  An adult, eighteen years or older, who is familiar with your child's health history, must accompany your child and present a photo IDThis person must have the child's immunization record and a written statement from the parent with the following information:

  • Childs date of birth
  • The relationship of the person accompanying the child
  • Written concent (delegation form): I give permission for (name of the adult) to bring in my child, (Name of Child), for any immunizations needed at this visit.
  • Parent Signature and Date.

CAN ANYONE READ THE TB SKIN TEST RESULTS?

No, only the Comal County Health Department or your school nurse can read and report the TB skintest results.

HOW MUCH DO SHOTS COSTS?

The fees for any service are listed on our Fee for Service Schedule.
